Kent Hirschfelder

In partnership with the St. Louis Kaplan Feldman Holocaust Museum, the Library welcomes Kent Hirschfelder to share his family's story.

In 1933, Kent Hirschfelder’s father often stood ten feet away from Adolf Hitler as the newly appointed  dictator marched past his Munich apartment. Learning of his father’s past, Kent has spent the past forty years uncovering the family history, gaining knowledge about those who survived and those who did not. He has made numerous trips to Germany, meeting with archivists, historians and translators to help reconstruct the stories of several generations of the Hirschfelder family.

His compelling narrative is personal, but reflective of many of the Jewish families impacted by the Holocaust, and is a cautionary tale of the results of unchecked power and increasing worldwide antisemitism.
