Program Description

Event Details

MAKE IT SEW is a group of quilters and sewists who enjoy making small projects and quilts. We welcome new quilters!

This year, we will learn (or continue to learn) by making 6" blocks.

MODERN 6" BLOCKS:

We will be using the book 100 Modern Quilt Blocks for our class. Class copies will be available to use. Blocks from this book are perfect for the beginning quilter, the more experienced quilter, and everyone in between! The goal is to make 2-4 blocks a month (or more if you have the time).

TRADITIONAL 6" BLOCKS:

There is an alternate 6" block source from a book called Alice's Wonderland Sampler Quilt. These blocks are more traditional. Several class members will be using this book.

SUPPLIES:

Each time you should bring your sewing machine and sewing supplies (pins, thread, needles pin cushion, fabric scissors, seam ripper). If you do not have a portable sewing machine, we have sewing machines available. When you register, please indicate if you will be using one of our sewing machines.

We will have rotary cutters, cutting mats, and rulers available to use. We will also have ironing boards and irons to use.

It would be helpful for each new quilter to have a few design boards. I suggest buying or making 4 boards to use in class each month. You can purchase 10" x 10" design boards for $1.25 each at the local dollar store. You can also make your own. Here is a tutorial on how to make your own design boards - Part 2 is adding the fancy edging, which is optional:

FABRIC:

If you have access to fabric scraps, they would be perfect for this project. If you don't have fabric scraps, you could purchase a "jelly roll" of 42 pre-cut 2.5" coordinated fabric strips and a MATCHING "layer cake" of 42 pre-cut 10" coordinated fabric squares...this should get you going!

EACH MEETING:

We begin each meeting with a general Show & Tell of our personal completed projects. Then we start the instruction and move into sewing time! This class will be a blend of new and experienced quilters.
