Program Description

Event Details

Join St. Charles County Parks and the St. Charles City-County Library District for a screening of "Big Medicine: York Outdoors," a compelling 35-minute film that reclaims and elevates the story of York, the only Black member of the Lewis and Clark Expedition. Produced by the Lewis and Clark National Historic Trail and NEW Multimedia, this documentary follows a group of Black outdoor leaders on a journey that retraces the path of the original Corps of Discovery while honoring York’s legacy and highlighting the healing, empowerment, and joy that the natural world can offer. The screening will be followed by a presentation from Jeffrey Edison, a local public historian on the York's contributions, ending with a Q&A. Registration is required. Event is recommended for ages 12 and up.

Jeffrey Edison is a Museum Educator for the St. Louis County Parks. His focus is Black Studies, specializing in slavery and regional St. Louis history, the Federal Period, and military history ranging from 1800-1946. Jeffrey’s recent work helped to locate enslaved and freedom seekers from the General Daniel Bissell House.
