Program Description
Event Details
The one-man concert, "A Story and a Song," is performed by Mountain Sam Wheelock. It is partially a love letter about life as a child in the Mountains of Eastern Tennessee, part modern electric folk music (rooted in the Southern Appalachians), and part memoir. Mostly, it's a heartfelt journey into the souls of a people.
Growing up, he listened to the extended Carter Family play in an Aunt's front yard. Mountain Sam's mission, however, is to be respectful of that form, tipping his hat to pioneers like Bill Monroe, Stick and Brownie McGhee, while being active in the evolution of regional music.
About Mountain Sam Wheelock, he is a singer, songwriter, and storyteller.

Some of Sam's credits include involvement in the Grammy-nominated radio series "Tennessee's Mountain Heritage," major films like the "Adams Family" and Robert Rodriguez/Quentin Tarantino's "From Dusk till Dawn," prime-time network shows for ABC Productions, and advertising awards as the staff music composer for Cox Communications.
In addition, Mountain Sam Wheelock is currently in reruns on two hundred PBS television stations nationwide as part of "Song of the Mountains," which will also air on selected NPR affiliates.
