Program Description

Event Details

One of the most difficult things about sewing our own clothes is making them fit.  We will talk about how to measure ourselves and adjust a pattern so it fits YOU. We'll also do some hands-on measuring and pattern adjustments so you'll be ready to make a pair of pajama pants or shorts.

Please bring your pattern, fabric, and sewing tools, including pins, pencils, and measuring tape. We will supply tissue paper to make your pattern adjustments. We will have time to adjust the pattern to your body and get it pinned and cut, ready for you to make at home. We won't have time to make the pants in class, though.

To buy a pattern, measure your hips, about 9 inches below your waist, and purchase the pattern size closest to that measurement. For example, if you measure your hips at 40 inches, look for the pattern that includes a 40-42 inch hip measurement. If your measurement isn't on the pattern, try to find a larger pattern or get the largest you can find. Look at the envelope you choose to see the fabric requirements for your pants, and buy more fabric if your measurement isn't on the pattern envelope.

Suggested patterns include:

Butterick 6428 or 6296

McCall's 7875

Simplicity 1563 or 8804

New Look 6233 or 6859

These patterns may be on sale in April.
