Event Details

This talk will focus on the Osage because of their connections to St. Louis. Other native peoples within Missouri included the Kickapoo, Shawnee, Ioway, Otoe, Delaware, Osage, and others.

Some of these groups lived in Missouri for centuries, and some came to Missouri because of the growing number of white inhabitants in the East.

Doug Schneider will discuss what indigenous life was like before and after Missouri was settled. He will also cover the reasons why there are no federally recognized tribes in Missouri today.
