Teens (Grades 7-12)Program Description
Event Details
Teens are invited to join us for a showing of the 2014 film The Giver (rated PG-13, runtime 97 min). After watching, we will discuss the film's themes, as well as its connections to the book The Giver and its similarities to this year's One Read book, Fahrenheit 451. We will also explore other topics explored in the film and this year's One Read, such as information literacy and accessibility. Teens are invited to stay for the discussion after the film, or to attend the film screening only. Snacks and drinks will be served!
Below is the film's synopsis, provided by the library catalog:
The story centers on Jonas, young man who lives in a supposedly ideal world of conformity and contentment. Yet as he begins to spend time with the elder, who is the sole keeper of all the community's memories, Jonas quickly begins to discover the dark and deadly truths of his community's secret past. At extreme odds, Jonas knows that he must escape their world to protect them all; a challenge that no one has ever succeeded at before.
