This class will go over the top 5 things to consider as a person with disabilities transitions from high school to the next step. Topics will include, knowing one's limitations, financial implications, housing needs, guardianship, and employment decisions.

The first job held helped form the foundation we needed to be successful in our careers. The same applies to people with disabilities. They need a first job or "first step" to gain access to the possibilities that lay within and ahead of each of them

This presentation is appropriate for individuals with disabilities and their families.

Sandy Weitkamp, Benefits Case Manager for the Skills Center, a Vocational Training company for people with disabilities. This is an excellent resource for caregivers for those with disabilities. Her knowledge of Social Security and Medicaid programs are instrumental in helping people with disabilities join the workforce without fear of losing needed supports. She is a community resource for anyone who has questions. Sandy has bachelor's degrees in Educational Studies and Special Education as well as a master's degree in Rehabilitation Counseling.
