Program Description

Event Details

Pick up copies of this month's books at the Youth Services desk at the Middendorf-Kredell branch or at the Deer Run branch.

A book club for the whole family! Each month, we will provide one copy of a chapter book suitable for grades 4-6 and one copy of a picture book suitable for grades K-3. Read either or both books (we encourage reading them aloud!) and come to the Library to discuss the books with other families, do a related activity and craft, discover new reads similar to each month's books, and pick up copies of the next month's books!

This is a family/group program; children attending must be accompanied by an adult.

four picture books with fairy tale covers

The Island of Dr. Libris by Christ Grabenstein: What if your favorite characters came to life? Billy's spending the summer in a lakeside cabin that belongs to the mysterious Dr. Libris. But something strange is going on. Besides the security cameras everywhere, there's Dr. Libris's private bookcase. Whenever Billy opens the books inside, he can hear sounds coming from the island in the middle of the lake. The clash of swords. The twang of arrows. Sometimes he can even feel the ground shaking. It's almost as if the stories he's reading are coming to life! But that's impossible . . . isn't it?

It's Not a Fairy Tale series by Josh Funk: This month, choose one of the It's Not a Fairy Tale picture books by Josh Funk. In these fractured fairy tale stories, the characters refuse to listen to the storyteller and will not go along with their original stories. This leads to some hilarious results!

Additional copies may be available for checkout: The Island of Dr. Libris (CD audio, digital audio, and eBook)
