Pick up copies of this month's books at the Youth Services desk at the Middendorf-Kredell branch.
A book club for the whole family! Each month, we will provide one copy of a chapter book suitable for grades 4-6 and one copy of a picture book suitable for grades K-3. Read either or both books (we encourage reading them aloud!) and come to the Library to discuss the books with other families, do a related activity and craft, discover new reads similar to each month's books, and pick up copies of the next month's books!
This is a family/group program; children attending must be accompanied by an adult.
A Soft Place to Land by Janae Marks - Joy Taylor has always believed home is the house she lived in her entire life. But then her dad lost his job, and suddenly, home becomes a tiny apartment with thin walls, shared bedrooms, and a place for tense arguments between Mom and Dad. A friendly new neighbor her age lets Joy in on the complex's best-kept secret: the Hideout, a cozy refuge that only the kids know about. And it's in this little hideaway that Joy starts exchanging secret messages with another kid in the building who also seems to be struggling, until, abruptly, they stop writing back. What if they're in trouble? Joy is determined to find out who this mystery writer is, fast.
Good, Night Bat! Good Morning, Squirrel! by Paul Meisel - A lonely bat thinks he has found a perfect home until he discovers that it's already inhabited by a persnickety squirrel. Since each is asleep during the other's waking hours, the two begin exchanging notes. With these notes, Squirrel does her best to oust her unwelcome guest, but Bat misunderstands and thinks Squirrel is happy to have a new friend.
Additional copies may be available to check out from our catalog: A Soft Place to Land (print, CD, and digital) and Good Night, Bat! Good Morning, Squirrel! (print).
