Program Description

Event Details

Pick up copies of this month's books at the Youth Services desk at the Middendorf-Kredell branch.

A book club for the whole family! Each month, we will provide one copy of a chapter book suitable for grades 4-6 and one copy of a picture book suitable for grades K-3. Read either or both books (we encourage reading them aloud!) and come to the Library to discuss the books with other families, do a related activity/craft, discover new reads similar to each month's books, and pick up copies of the next month's books! This is a family/group program; children attending must be accompanied by an adult.

Saving Marty by Paul Griffin: Renzo is a quiet kid, content to let his charismatic friend Paloma do all the talking while he dreams of playing the guitar and surfing out in California, becoming a veterinarian, and maybe tracking down the father he's never known. He lives on a farm with his mom, grandfather, and an extraordinary pig named Marty. Renzo and Marty's friendship is one-of-a-kind, but the bigger Marty gets, the harder it is for Renzo to justify his unusual pet to his penny-pinching mom. So when she threatens to sell Marty, or worse, Renzo decides it's up to him and Paloma to save Marty once and for all.

Who Wants a Tortoise? by Dave Keane: Expecting a dog for her birthday, a girl is upset and furious when she gets a tortoise instead, but soon learns that even a tortoise can be a good pet.

Additional copies may be available to check out from our catalog: Saving Marty (print, audio, and digital) and Who Wants a Tortoise? (print and digital).
